Mark Lauren’s 90-Day Challenge Review: Effective Bodyweight Workout for Strength and Conditioning
I’ve just completed Mark Lauren’s 90-Day Challenge, and while it was definitely long, it offered a great workout program focusing on strength through bodyweight exercises.
The 90-Day Challenge involves 12 weeks of workouts followed by a week off, repeating this cycle for a total of 3 months. It’s designed to keep you engaged, providing a solid bodyweight-focused workout. Unlike other programs, this challenge focuses primarily on weight training using your own body, with minimal cardio.
Key Features of the 90-Day Challenge
This program is centered on push-ups, pull-up variations, ab exercises, and more. While it’s not packed with high-intensity cardio like some other workout programs, there are still exercises that will challenge your body.
Compared to Beachbody videos, the biggest difference is the lack of extensive cardio exercises. There’s no running, jumping jacks, or shuffles. The cardio moments come in the form of exercises like ‘Iron Mikes’ (lunge variation) and jumping squats.
Tracking Your Progress
During my challenge, I used an Apple Watch to track calories burned. On average, I burned between 250-300 calories per session. If I fell short of 300, I would add extra cardio like running, jumping jacks, burpees, or kettlebell swings to reach my goal.
Addressing Common Concerns
A common critique of this program is the "smooth transition" between warm-up and workout. While I’ve seen other videos where the warm-up is separate, in this program, the warm-up is integrated into the workout, and the exercises are explained at the beginning.
Another feedback I encountered was regarding Mark Lauren's tone, which some find too monotone and not motivating. While I agree his delivery isn’t overly energetic, the program’s effectiveness speaks for itself.
Final Thoughts on the 90-Day Challenge
The 90-Day Challenge is a solid workout program, especially if you're looking for a break from high-intensity, fast-paced workouts. It's a great way to build strength and improve fitness without the need for heavy equipment. While it’s not my go-to for intense cardio, it will remain a part of my routine, and I plan to revisit it soon.
